　１８７１年（明治４年）に、熊本の郷士の家に生まれた宮崎滔天という人がいた。民権派に加わり、キリスト教に帰依したあと「中国で革命を起こすことこそ、世界革命につながり、貧困をなくす道」と決意して革命工作にのめり込み、辛亥革命を主導した孫文を命がけで助けた。
　『謀叛の児』は、激動の時代をとことん熱く生きた滔天の行動と挫折、そして再生を鮮やかに描いたノンフィクションの傑作。東アジアの平和が希求されているのに、逆にレイシズム（人種差別）がはびこっている今こそ、若い人たちに出会ってほしい一冊だ。

「抵抗せよ―旅人」：Ｊ・スウィフトの小説『ガリヴァー旅行記』の一節。空を飛ぶ国「ラピュータ」を訪れたガリヴァーが、その土地の学者と、アナグラム（文字の組み換え）を使って〈反政府の陰謀をでっちあげる方法〉を話し合って生まれた言葉。この本には、政治や権力者の腐敗に対する風刺や、スウィフト自身の強烈な憤りが刻み込まれており、それらは現代の日本の状況にも通じるものがある。
